In the first quarter of the year, electronic trade in Spain reached more than EUR 25.7 billion. Compared to the same period in 2024, this was an increase of 18.7 percent. Most online transactions were designed abroad, which means that cross -border electronic trade is popular in Spain.
This is, according to new data from the Spanish portal CNMCDATA, which is operated by the National Authority for Markets and Competition. In 2024, online revenue will reach EUR 95.2 billion. Compared to the previous year, this was an increase of 13.1 percent.

Travel increased the strongest
Looking at online sectors individually, it is clear that, in particular, travel agencies and tour operators showed the strongest growth with 9.4 percent. Air transport followed second (6.7 % growth) and clothing for third (5.9 percent).
65.7% of online transactions went to shops abroad
The report also focused on the Spanish cross -border electronic trade. According to CNMC, the net balance of foreign trade (the difference between purchases from abroad to Spain and purchases from Spain abroad) reported a deficit of 11.2 billion euros. This means that Spanish consumers import more online goods than exported countries.
Looking at transactions, 34.3 percent of purchases and sales are intended for Spain, while 65.7 percent went abroad. The total turnover of transactions aimed abroad in the first quarter increased to 14.6 billion euros. Compared to the year earlier it was an increase of 14.6 percent.

And purchases from abroad to Spain reached EUR 3.3 billion, an increase of 21.7 percent. Most of them came from Europe, like most purchases from Spain abroad. At least 94.2 percent went to online stores in the European Union.
